PHYSICIANS Michael G. Beat, MD, MPH
St. Louis Urological Surgeons is thrilled to announce the arrival of Dr. Michael Beat to our team. Dr. Beat is available to all St. Louis Urological Surgeons patients as needed and is based at the Arch Cancer Center. Adding Dr. Beat is another example of how our practice is dedicated to meeting every need of our patients. He is focusing on radiation oncology as it relates to urologic systems, such as the prostate. Joining St. Louis Urological Surgeons in April 2009, Dr. Beat became interested in cancer research and treatment while studying cancer biology at Kansas State University earning his degree with cum laude distinction. From there, he obtained a Master's in Public Health and his Master's Degree at Tulane University. During his residency at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital, he mastered the skill of specialized cancer treatment with radiation. While serving in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center, Dr. Beat was the Chief of Radiation Therapy. Upon leaving the military and moving to St. Louis, Dr. Beat joined the St. Louis Cancer & Breast Institute to manage the breast cancer program and develop the prostate cancer program. Due to his time in the military, Dr. Beat feels a special connection with his prostate cancer patients due to the high number of military veterans who suffer from the disease. "Working with the doctors at St. Louis Urological Surgeons is an interesting opportunity for me," said Dr. Beat. "The collaboration between the two disciplines is so beneficial to the patients and stimulating for the doctors." Dr. Beat's family includes his wife, Kelly, their daughter Courtney and son Brandon. In his free time, Dr. Beat enjoys attending his children's sporting events, skiing and traveling.
